Ball in / out of play: Throw Ins, Corner Kicks, and Goal Kicks
Ball In and Out of Play
The entire ball must cross the line to be considered out of play. This means that if any part of the ball would touch the line if the line was 3D the ball is still in play.
The Picture on the right, only ball D is out of play.
Correct Throw In Procedures
Two hands on the ball, behind the head and two feet on the ground.
In the beginning of the season most younger age groups in recreation soccer will allow a re-do of a throw in if it is illegal.
Corner Kicks
If the ball goes over the Goal Line and goes NOT go in the goal and the Defending Team is the last one to touch the ball then it is a Corner Kick.
Goal Kicks
If the ball goes over the Goal Line and goes NOT go in the goal and the Attacking Team is the last one to touch the ball then it is a Goal Kick.
Communicating who gets the ball.
Use your voice and signals! Young players do not always know who gets the ball, even if it is obvious to you as the referee. Use your voice, give them direction to make it clear who gets the ball.
